Hi lovelies! I’ll be starting off the blog by reposting some of my original content and talking about them. In the future, I’ll be doing the same with new content that I upload—I like to think of this as a way to really talk about my creative process (and invite readers along for the journey!) and document my progress towards developing the skills needed to one day create the content I want, in the way I like it.
Lullaby of the New Year is my third video on my YouTube channel, after Mahiru no Zanzou (a vocal cover of a song from the Ensemble Stars franchise, combined with me playing around with LMMS) and Hey Brother x Brother (my first piano medley featuring two of my favourite songs). I won’t be making posts for these covers, but you could always find them on my channel.
Most of my original songs start off with me playing around with the piano. I’ve been learning the piano since I was little, and yet never really devoted my time towards it in a productive way. Instead, I liked to play whatever song I was obsessed with at the time by ear. So I developed a good sense of right-hand improvisation at the expense of not being able to play actual repertoire that well 😅
This song was created the same way. I tidied up the melody line, added lyrics and posted it in time for New Year’s: to not only kick off the new year but also to mark my first song after a year (counted after posting HBxB). Since then, some things have changed. I can’t promise a regular posting schedule given work and other projects, but I am trying to have a more predictable posting rotation. You’ll see on my Instagram I’ve set it up to rotate between art, music and writing. Although it’s a little restrictive, it’s to encourage me to practice all sorts of creative skills.
Hopefully one day, I can create a full album of original songs! (And make use of all the voice memos I’ve saved on my phone.)
Until next time,
— Cerys (@cerisylia)
